Sian Mitchell is a lecturer is Screen and Design in the School of Communication and Creative Arts. Sian’s research stems from practice-based film programming and curatorial projects, specifically through her role as Festival Director of the Melbourne Women in Film Festival, an annual festival showcasing women screen creatives and their work from the Oceanic region. Her interests traverse intersectional women’s screen practice, film festivals, cross-cultural storytelling, and contemporary and historical screen exhibition. Sian explores the position of culturally diverse and underrepresented Australian screen practitioners from socio-political, cultural and industrial perspectives with the aim of developing ways to elevate and make visible important but marginalized histories and stories.
